OUT OF STATE SALES OF MOTOR VEHICLES LEGISLATION INTRODUCED

Representative Caleb Jones (117th District) has introduced legislation to correct the problems created by the recent Supreme Court decision, Street v. Missouri Department of Revenue.  As introduced, HB 2100 defines the purchase of  motor vehicles, trailers or boats and motors "regardless of whether the sale took place in this state" as a retail sale. This bill may need some refinement, but it is a good starting point to correct this serious problem. Please contact your state representatives and senators and tell them that correcting this sales tax problem is very important to your municipality and that it is not a new or expanded tax, but one that taxpayers have been remitting.

JUDGE BLASTS "EVERYTHING TAX" PLAN BALLOT DESCRIPTIONS …

In a crushing defeat for the "Everything Tax,” a Missouri judge has ruled the proposed constitutional amendment’s ballot descriptions are "insufficient, unfair and prejudicial” because they deceive voters with biased wording about the measure’s devastating cut of $7.5 billion in vital state general revenues.

Read the Columbia Daily Tribune's story to learn more about the ruling.

This ill-conceived tax scheme would create a huge budget shortfall at the state level; shift the tax burden to Missouri's seniors and low-moderate income citizens; and leave municipal income from local sales taxes in limbo.
