­City of Blue Springs Mayor Carson Ross Name Recipient of the
Missouri Municipal League 2015 Distinguished Service Award

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – The Missouri Municipal League is honored to present City of Blue Springs Mayor Carson Ross with the 2015 Distinguished Service Award. Mayor Ross received the award at MML’s annual conference Sept. 22 in Kansas City, Missouri.

The award honors a current or former Missouri municipal official who has made outstanding contributions to the Missouri Municipal League. The selection committee considers a candidate’s length of service, enthusiasm and dedication, participation in MML activities and outstanding leadership in the association.

Mayor Ross has an outstanding history of public service. He began his career in municipal government in 1981 as a Blue Springs Alderman, serving for eight years. He served one year as Mayor Pro Tem.

Prior to his election as Mayor, he served in the Legislative Branch of the State of Missouri. In 1988, Mayor Ross was elected to the Missouri House of Representatives, representing the 55th District. Ross served a total of 14 years in the Missouri House of Representatives (1989-2003). He served as Republican Whip in 1991-92.

He is a U.S. Army Vietnam Combat Infantry Veteran, serving from 1967-69. He received several citations including two Valorous Unit Awards while serving in Vietnam from 1967-68.

Mayor Ross is devoted to his faith, family, city, region and the Missouri Municipal League. He has served on or chaired numerous League committees, and has served with the MML Board of Directors as a member, vice president and president.
Mayor Ross presently serves as a member of the Mid-America Regional Council (MARC) Board of Directors and serves as the Missouri Co-Chair of the MARC Total Transportation Policy Committee. Mayor Ross serves as Co-Chairman of the Eastern Jackson County Betterment Council, and as Chairman of the Mayor’s Advisory Board for the Little Blue Valley Sewer District where he also serves as the current Vice Chairman for their Board of Trustees.
