Moving Missouri Cities Forward in 2017

Cities Working With New Leadership to Preserve Local Services and Strengthen Communities

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Missouri cities look forward to working with new state and federal leadership to strengthen Missouri communities.

“Local government is the closest form of government that affects a Missouri family day in and day out,” said Riverside Mayor Kathy Rose. “With new leadership at the state and federal level, we want to work closely with those officials to bring high-paying jobs, a comprehensive statewide economic development strategy, and safe neighborhoods to Missouri communities.”

Rose serves as the current president of the Missouri Municipal League.

Two-thirds of Missouri residents live in cities, making municipal services fundamental for most Missourians. Local voter-approved resources fund vital services such as trash removal, water treatment, police and fire protection, street maintenance, and parks.

“With most Missourians residing in a municipality, it’s crucial to have a solid partnership with state and federal leadership to preserve local decision-making,” said MML Executive Director Dan Ross. “Local officials are strongly invested in their community and uniquely positioned to preserve and provide local services to improve a citizen’s quality of life.”

Hundreds of bills will be introduced during the 2017 legislative session that will directly or indirectly impact the quality of life in Missouri cities and towns.

“Cities do their part each day to keep streets maintained, trash picked up, water services running, safe neighborhoods and more,” said Rose. “We need the Governor and members of the General Assembly in Jefferson City to stand with us and support local communities.”

The Missouri Municipal League provides a united voice for municipalities across Missouri. Founded in 1934, MML now serves more than 650 municipalities with training, resources and legislative advocacy for local government leaders. Learn more at www.mocities.com.
